Haven't Forgotten About the Blog
I know my blog is still under construction but there are a few things I would like to do that are taking me some time to figure out. I am trying to finish it soon so that I can move on and get started on other things.
If you are interested here is what I have planned so far:
- I would like to have my blog update to my friendfeed and my friendfeed update to my blog. Not exactly sure how I want to execute that.
- I know what I would like to put up on the graphic / text slides part up top but not sure how to make it work just yet. It is possible I just need to learn how to do it.
- The links are going to become other web pages. I need to choose my web host and get them up on the web.
I would also like to add some sort of interactive element to the entire site but I am not sure what just yet. There are many services out there but I want it to be something unique that isn't just a video feed and an IRC chat room.
Until these updates go online I will continue to update the blog.

The perfect all in one device.
Ever since our first computer when I was 10 or so I dreamed of owning a future computer that was just the screen. The screen was a touch screen that you could draw on and play with and never needed wires or batteries. It would hold all your books, pictures, videos, games, and radio / TV channels.
When the first tablet computers started showing up on the market however they were not very well received. They were difficult to use and not terribly popular among heavy pc users. Most of them used the windows operating system which was not portable or very touch friendly. They were heavy, slow and had a very short battery life sometimes only lasting 2 hours before needing to be recharged.
Todays major advances in mobile technology brought the dream of the perfect all in one device back. Some of the new gadgets coming out on the market today look like something that was beamed back from the future. Here are some of my personal favorites:
- The Light Blue Optics Light Touch Pico Projector - http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/light-blue-optics-unveils-light-touch-a-10-inch-touchscreen-pic/
This projector can turn just about any surface into a touch screen. You choose the size of your screen from tiny desk or coffee table to big projector screen or wall.
- The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 - http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-ideapad-u1-hybrid-hands-on-and-impressions/
When I first saw this I was blown away! It looks like a laptop but then the guy pulls off the screen. I laughed thinking he had broken it but no... The screen pulls away and becomes a tablet. The screen and the base work together when connected but become two separate devices when apart. This allows you to use the tablet but keep the computer base going while you are away.

This is computing made simple. It is essentially an iPhone or iPod touch only bigger and with more processing power. Not apple's most original work but still a very beautiful product.

Google Chrome!
Some time ago when our family first purchased a top of the line Gateway 2000 with a Pentium 2 processor and a whole 512mb of ram with a CD-ROM drive I barley knew what the internet was. Trying to play a simple shockwave game online was just about as slow as a snail running a marathon. Back then the browser of choice was Internet Explorer.
As the internet speeds got faster and our system got older and more outdated viruses and spyware became a huge problem. It eventually became so bad we had to switch from windows 98 to a new computer with windows xp. With that switch we also started using the newer and more secure Firefox browser. Over time this browser proved to me that it is possible to leave IE behind all together.
Now when Google came out with their own browser Chrome I was very excited. I had been a huge supporter of everything Google so far and looked forward to another great browsing experience. After downloading it and testing it out for a couple days I liked the interface but discovered a few problems. Many sites did not load properly. It also appeared to be fast at first but then slowed to a halt and became almost unusable. Because of this I kept using firefox.
I keep hearing from many popular sources such as Leo Laporte, Kim Komando, and even Bwana that chrome is amazing and that it is now their browser of choice. Because of this and the many changes they have implemented recently I have decided to give Google Chrome another chance. As of today I will be using only chrome for the next month on my home computer. I will keep you updated on how it goes.

More blog work today!
I think I have finally settled for now on a blog layout. Now I would like to get my friend feed stuff to post to my blog and hopefully my blog to post to my friend feed. This can be tricky because I don't want my friend feed to post to my blog and then that blog entry from friend feed to post back to friend feed. I also don't want my blog entry to post to friend feed and then that friend feed entry of my blog post to come back to my blog. Confused yet? I know I am!
The header up top is not quite complete as I do not have any real pictures or blog posts yet. There are also a couple more features from other blog templates that I would like to add in. I think this is going to be the home page for my website and all the other pages will be formatted similarly and will be linked to from the title bar up top.
So to summarize:

- Basic layout done - Finish the rest.
- Get Friendfeed posts to post here
- Finish header and add photos.

The future of this blog
This blog is designed to be my personal outlet to talk about being a Geek in today's fast paced tech filled world. It's focus will change as I go from being an IT student in college who barley knows what he wants out of life to, hopefully, an adult with a career and a family.
For now it will just be a simple site with news photos and maybe some video. As time progresses I hope to make it more interactive with audio / video podcasts, live video, chat, social networking elements, and way more.
